During that first trip to our sister city in May
1996 the decision was taken to sign the documents in Montabaur in
the fall of 1997. So the first official visit. from our sistor city
took place from September 12th to 22th 1997. The official party
was headed by mayor Linda Langerhans, at the same time another group
from Fredericksburg was taking part in the celebrations. All the
guests were put up in the family homes of members of the German-Texan
association.
The descendants of the Comanches, former inhabitants of the Fredericksburg
region, were interested in the sister city of Fredericksburg. When
touring through Germany in May 1998 they visited Montabaur and presented
their impressive dances.
The contacts between Fredericksburg and Montabaur made it possible
to realize the visit of the Fredericksburg Children Choral with
the "Niederelbert Dorfspatzen" (Village Sparrows). They had a trip
around Germany and visited the Westerwald from June 12th to 14th
and were guests of the Dorfspatzen and the German-Texan Association.
In the fall of 1998 the second party of the German-Texan Association
traveled to Texas. Their aim was the west, Big-Bend National Park
and, of course, our sister city of Fredericksburg. There we met
the Niederelbert Dorfspatzen, who at the same time were on a concert
tour through Texas.
So far many private contacts and sincere friendships have been established;
a wonderful task of linking peoples for the sister cities of Fredericksburg
and Montabaur.
